New Delhi: After losing to his rivals in the political arena and also on social media, Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi seems to have belatedly taken the plunge and rectify his image of being an aloof and disinterest politician. The Congress Lok Sabha MP from Amethi in Uttar Pradesh has joined Twitter and his handle is @OfficeOfRG.
The account put out its first tweet to say that Rahul Gandhi will be embarking on a padyatra in Telangana on May 12 travelling a distance of 15km in Adilabad district covering five villages starting from Wadial village.
But Rahul's account is yet to be verified and just mentions that it "is the official account of the Office of Rahul Gandhi". The bio also mentions that he is a Member of Parliament and Vice President, Indian National Congress.
Rahul's rivals like Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Rajnath Singh and External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj are already very active on Twitter. Even some of his party colleagues like Shashi Tharoor and another close friend Omar Abdullah of the National Conference have been using Twitter for a long time.
Rahul has been very aggressive in the last few days taking on a host of issues like Land Acquisition Bill, Real Estate Bill and net neutrality issue to boost his political standing in order to resurrect the Congress which has been badly mauled by the Bharatiya Janata Party in the electoral arena in the last couple of years.
His Twitter account got over 10.5 9K followers till 10:30 AM on Thursday.
