KOCHI: The City Shadow police and the Central police, on Thursday, arrested a person carrying hawala money, from Convent Road. Vinod Sen, 25, a resident of Thaheri village, Bhilwara district, Rajasthan, was the arrested. The police seized `26 lakh from the arrested person.The police action came after City Police Commissioner Ajith Kumar received secret information that a North Indian youth was suspiciously moving around in the vicinity of Convent Road. He was spotted by the police, standing in front of the SPS Gold Refinery with a bag. On being checked, the bag contained bundles of `1000 and `500. The youth admitted that he had come from Rajasthan and was living with one Hemal in an apartment at Layam Road. As he had no more information to give about the people who gave him the money, the police produced him before the District Judicial Magistrate, who remanded him in judicial custody.‘Express’ had earlier reported that hawala rackets are thriving in the city and many gangs are operating among the migrant labourers.
