Financier convicted for '93 blasts
Two aides of Tiger Memon aide found guilty; number of people held guilty reaches 77.

Mumbai: Two associates of gangster Tiger Memon were on Thursday found guilty of the 1993 serial blasts in Mumbai. An accused in the case was acquitted for lack of evidence.

Imtiaz Ghawte and Mulchand Shah, who are associates of absconding gangster Tiger Memon, the main accused in the case, were held guilty of aiding and abetting terrorist acts.

A TADA court held Shah, a financier, guilty of helping Memon to operate Hawala accounts in the name of ‘Hathi’, and thereby facilitating the serial bombings that killed 257 people.

Memon's aide Ghawte was found guilty of parking an RDX-laden scooter at Dhanji Street in south Mumbai. The scooter did not explode.

Ghawte was found guilty of participating in the conspiracy and participating in the landing of arms meant for the blasts.

The court convicted him under TADA, sections relating to attempted murder, damaging property, causing damage to building and the Explosives Act.

He was acquitted on the charge of filling RDX in vehicles at Memon-owned Al Husseni building.

With today's convictions, the total number of people found guilty for the blasts has risen to 77. Twenty-two people have been acquitted.
