CHENNAI: A financier was arrested for cheating a trader of pulses worth Rs 35 lakh after promising to secure him a loan of Rs 200 crore, in Thiruvanmiyur on Friday. KK Muhammed (44) of Jeevagan Street in Kalakshetra Colony, Besant Nagar, was a trader of pulses and had sustained losses in his business, the police said. Hence, he approached a financier, MSVN Meyyappan, and sought Rs 200 crore for expanding his business.Demanding Rs 3 crore as pre-payment, Meyyappan listed out the expenditure in securing the loan: Rs 26 lakh for stamp papers, registration Rs 2 lakh, processing charge Rs 1.5 lakh, interest and other expenditure Rs 2.34 lakh, preparation of documents Rs 50,000 and Rs 11 lakh towards insurance premium - a total of Rs 2,69,34,000.Muhammed paid Rs 35 lakh as the first instalment to Meyyappan and his sons. But even after a month, when he did not receive the promised loan amount, he filed a plaint at the Thiruvanmiyur police station. Inquiry revealed that he had cheated several persons in Sivaganga district in a similar manner and there were complaints against him at the Devakottai. It also came to light that he had defrauded several persons under the name of Vendan alias Thennaga Vendhan.
