Five debt-ridden farmers committed suicide in Vidarbha on Friday.
New Delhi: According to the Vidarbha Jan Andolan Samiti (VJAS), five debt-ridden farmers committed suicide in Vidarbha region of Maharashtra on Friday.
The VJAS, in a press release in Nagpur on Saturday claimed that two farmers from Yavatmal district, and one each from Wardha, Bhandara and Washim districts had ended their lives on Friday.
With this, the number of farmers who have taken the extreme step this year has touched 488, the VJAS claimed.
The VJAS has said 70 farmers had ended their lives in the region in January, 86 in February, 82 in March, 90 in April, 79 in May, 68 in June and 13 in July.
