A case of violation of the jail manual has been lodged against him following recovery of cell phones from his possession.

The Police, on the night of May 15 recovered four mobile sets, three chargers and an earphone, during a surprise raid in the Siwan jail where the MP is lodged.

Official sources said that a case charging Shahabuddin with keeping cell phones in violation of jail manual was registered in the court of Chief Judicial Magistrate in Siwan on May 16.

When contacted, the State Home Secretary Afzal Amanullah said that the District Magistrate of Siwan was asked to verify the names and addresses of the persons in whose names these sim-cards were issued.

The two constables have been suspended for dereliction of duty in connection with the recovery of the illegal items.

With the registration of another case, Shahbuddin faces 32 cases, of which charge sheets in 29 cases have been filed and charges are framed against him in 8 cases.

The pending cases against him include murder, attempt to murder, possession of illegal arms of foreign make, unaccounted foreign currency and violation of the Wild Life Act.

All the cases were registered after the MP’s henchmen attacked a police patrol
