Veteran actor and theatre personality Girish Karnad's remarks about AR Rahman, that "his music is overpowering that listeners miss the beauty of the lyrics", has created an uproar among Rahman fans.
Rahman's fans on social networking and microblogging sites have come to the Oscar winner's support, stating that he always gives importance to lyrics.
At the same time, there were few who supported Karnad's claim. Speaking at a recent function on Urdu poetry, Karnad said Rahman's music is beautiful but so overpowering.
"Rahman is a great musician, his orchestration is beautiful and overpowering, as a result of which one misses the beauty of lyrics that once defined songs in Bollywood," Karnad said.
