HYDERABAD: Chief minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy has directed the health department to study the possibility of extending free health services to all sections of the people in the state. At present the government is providing free health services to nearly 2.33 crore white ration card holders through Rajiv Arogyasri Trust.
The chief minister who chaired the Arogyasri Healthcare Trust board meeting on Wednesday reviewed the activities of the trust.Kiran Kumar Reddy directed the Arogyasri Trust officials to increase the percentage of treatment in government hospitals from the existing 22 to 40 percent. He wanted them to ensure quality services under the scheme.

The chief minister also approved the new health camp policy and new health counters opened at Tirupati, Warangal, Kakinada, Visakhapatnam and Vijayawada. Under the new policy, health camps would be held by the primary health centres concerned in each district and the doctors at the PHCs would get some incentives. To encourage the PHCs, the trust is providing `6,000 for each health camp. The chief minister instructed the trust to work out modalities for constructing additional buildings for 104 call centre on the trust premises. He has also agreed for creation of research corpus of `30 crore, the interest of which would be spent on commissioning studies in various areas of health research.

Differences cropped up between the chief minister and health minister DL Ravindra Reddy in the meeting about removing 104 employees. Ravindra Reddy wanted Kiran Reddy to remove 104 employees but the latter rejected the proposal. The miffed minister later walked out of the meeting and refused to speak to the waiting media.
