Government to take colleges to task

Even as verification of certificates for engineering counselling is set to begin on Monday, the government is getting ready to crack the whip on colleges seeking hike in fees.

Though the government issued a GO on Saturday night fixing the fees for colleges which did not agree to the Rs 35,000 fee, it also asked the state level task force to inspect colleges immediately to verify if they have the infrastructure commensurate with the hike.

Deputy chief minister D Rajanarasimha told the force to not shy away from filing criminal cases against college managements if they are found violating AICTE guidelines.
