New Delhi: The Centre is trying to finalise interlocutors for holding talks with all shades of opinion in Jammu and Kashmir "very early" but refused to give any deadline for the same.
Union Home Minister P Chidambaram said the visit of the all-party delegation to the state on September 21 and 22 was the highlight of his ministry last month.
"Upon its return, after consulting members of the delegation who were available in Delhi, I submitted a report to the Prime Minister (Manmohan Singh)...later the CCS considered the report and approved the eight-point plan", he said.
The plan included appointment of interlocutors for holding talks with all shades of opinion in Kashmir. To a question when the appointment will be done, Chidambaram said, "That will be done... Can't give you a time limit. Our intentions is to do it very early."
Asked whether the interlocutors will be politicians, he said: "Can't disclose now. When it will be decided, you will know."
On September 25, under a major 8-point initiative to address the unrest in the Kashmir valley, the Centre had declared that a group of interlocutors will be appointed to hold a "sustained dialogue" with various shades of opinion.
The group of interlocutors under the chairmanship of an eminent person will begin the process of dialogue with all sections of the people of Jammu and Kashmir, including political parties, groups, youth and student organisations, civil society organisations and other stakeholders.
