Gandhinagar: The Gujarat Anti-Corruption Bureau on Tuesday arrested suspended IAS officer Pradeep Sharma.
Sharma, who made headlines back in 2013 when he spoke up against Prime Minister Narendra Modi who was then the Gujarat Chief Minister and his aide Amit Shah for their alleged role in the snoopgate scandal, has been taken into custody in connection with a land scam.
He has been accused of allotting land to companies illegally during his tenure as the Kutch Collector.
The Gujarat ACB had filed a complaint, alleging that Sharma had allotted land to the Welspun Group at around 25 per cent of the market rates. The complaint also says that Welspun granted undue favours to Sharma's wife.
On Monday, the Enforcement Directorate attached Sharma's properties worth Rs 1 crore. Sharma is facing five criminal cases including his alleged involvement in land scam registered against him since 2008 in Rajkot area.
