Raj Singh Gehlot, owner of the famous Gurugram based Ambience Mall, was arrested on Thursday by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in a bank fraud case.
Gehlot was arrested on charges of bank loan fraud worth Rs 200 crore. An ED official told IANS that Gehlot has been arrested from Haryana’s Gurugram and will be produced before a court in Delhi later in the day.
The ED is demanding custody of the owner for questioning regarding the fraud case. Gehlot is also being probed by the CBI.
It is being said that Gehlot had done the fraud with the help of politically connected people and government officials.
The Punjab and Haryana High Court had directed the CBI to probe the case for the alleged illegal construction of a commercial building on approximately 18.98 acres of land in Gurugram by blatantly flouting the building by-laws and statutory provisions in collusion with others.
It was alleged that the land where the Ambience Mall was built was meant for a housing project. Ambience Mall is a prominent mall in Delhi-NCR which sees footfall almost 50,000 people on weekends. Prior to Covid-19, the establishment saw between 80,000 and 85,000 visitors on weekends.
