BHUBANESWAR: Former minister and senior BJP leader Biswabhusan Harichandan has demanded CBI probe into the alleged Pipili gangrape case. Alleging that the chargesheet filed by the Crime Branch (CB) in the case is meant to hoodwink the people of the State, Harichandan said that rule of law does not exist in the State. If the victim was not raped and the main accused attempted to murder her as stated by CB, why the police did not accept the FIR filed by her parents in the first instance, he asked. Harichandan said that if the police had accepted the first FIR, truth would have come out from medical examination. The CB chargesheet has confirmed doubts that attempts were being made to suppress the incident completely. The former minister said that the Government was forced to act belatedly because of the public outcry over the incident and the intervention of the High Court and the Human Rights Commission. Harichandan demanded that Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik should agree for a CBI probe to bring out the truth and establish the rule of law in the State.
