Hearing in rape case against Union Minister Nihal Chand in Jaipur court today
A woman has made allegations of rape and exploitation and filed an appeal against the clean chit given to Nihal Chand. Following that, a Jaipur court issued notices to 17 people including Chand in June this year.

New Delhi: A Jaipur court on will be hearing an appeal against the acquittal of Nihal Chand, the Union Minister of State for Chemicals and Fertilisers in a rape case. This even as Nihal Chand is not present at the hearing.

The Rajasthan police claimed that they weren't able to track down the minister to serve the notice to him. This despite the fact that he assumed charge as Minister of State for Panchayati Raj on Tuesday following the cabinet expansion.

The case goes back to 2011, when a woman claimed that she was sexually abused and exploited by 17 people including Nihal Chand. All 17 were issued a notice by a Jaipur court.

The victim had said earlier this year that there is a threat to life.

"The people who have been named in the FIR are powerful people and can do anything to save themselves. I have a threat to my life from them. They can also harm my family," the rape survivor had said.

She said that she was not given protection even after she filed her statement. "We have asked for protection but we haven't got it. The police officers have also been threatening us since we filed the case.

The rape survivor had also claimed that people tried to lure her by offering money to the family or job to her brother so that they withdraw the case.
