In a startling incident in Uttar Pradesh’s Agra, a woman posing as SP Kasganj managed to deceive officials and had two businessmen wrongfully arrested under false pretenses. The impersonator, yet to be identified, successfully convinced authorities to apprehend Rahul and Lalit from Khairagarh on fabricated charges of involvement in a recent theft in Kasganj.
The hoax began when the woman contacted the Public Relations Officer (PRO) of DCP East, Atul Sharma, identifying herself as SP Kasganj Aparna Rajat Kaushik. She requested to speak with the Inspector of Khairagarh. The PRO then passed on the same number to the inspector and the woman, posing as the SP, alleged that there was a robbery at a jewellery shop in Kasganj. She traced the stolen goods to Rahul and Lalit of Khairagarh and directed the inspector to arrest both immediately.
Promptly following the fake SP’s orders, the inspector and his team detained both businessmen. However, upon thorough investigation, it was swiftly established that Rahul and Lalit were innocent of any wrongdoing related to the alleged theft. They were subsequently released on the orders of Agra authorities. The deception did not end there.
Upon learning of the release, the impostor began demanding money from the businessmen, threatening them with renewed legal action if they failed to comply. Sensing foul play, Rahul and Lalit promptly reported the extortion attempts to the Khairagarh police, presenting recorded evidence of the fake SP’s demands.
In response to the complaint, ACP Khairagarh Imran Ahmed assured that legal proceedings have been initiated. A case has been registered based on the businessmen’s complaint against the fake SP impersonator, he stated, adding that efforts are underway to apprehend the perpetrator and ensure justice is served.
