After a week of misgivings with the boss or wife for that matter, perhaps the best remedy is a barrel full of comedy. An Evening of Funny Ones by Nicholas Productions promises just the cure with some rib tickling short sketches, originally performed by Rowan Atkinson (popularly known as Mr Bean). Yohan Chacko, a dentist-cum-co director in the production says, “Well, that is the first character people connect Atkinson to, but we will not be doing any Mr Bean.” However, he adds, “The audience is bound for the unexpected. This is the kind of humour with a little bit of astonishment thrown in — some might find it rather appalling, but enjoyable all the same.”There will also be three vignettes (10 to 12 minutes each) — Dogs in the Park, What Happens Behind the Bar and Orient Experience. If a young stud pup courting an uptown poodle with her nose in the air is not romance for you, this one is also a shout out to all dog owners in the city. What are those four-legged furry ones really thinking when they sniff you up and down? The latter is a glimpse into the conversation of four men who meet behind a tavern in ‘high spirits’ of course and finally, a comic piece themed around overlapping phrases in the English language. This will be their first non-musical production, after the likes of Moulin Rouge, Cinderella and Beauty and the Beast and director Denver Anthony Nicholas reveals that the audience will be privy to some all time favourites by none other than the late King of Pop. This would be a feeler to their next venture, titled, I Wanna Be MJ. With eight funnies on July 8 and a few reminders of a much loved music icon, this evening looks like its going to be quite a ‘thriller’.The play will be staged on July 8, Friday at the Sivagami Petachi Auditorium, 7.30-9pm.
