The Vellore Collectorate is all set to have a heritage park as an initiative has been taken up to convert the existing open space on the premises of the Collectorate into a green area with a variety of plants, children play area and colourful paintings.
The `40 lakh-heritage park project has been taken up under the Self Sufficiency Scheme by District Rural Development Agency (DRDA) along with private and nationalised banks in the district. The park would come up on the 1.3 acre vacant land in front of the A-block on the Collectorate premises.
“The objective of the park is to create a pleasant environment for the public coming to Collectorate, besides keeping the campus clean and green. It will have paints depicting the historical importance of the district on the walls along the park,” District Collector Ajay Yadav told Express after reviewing the ongoing work.
“As per the provision of the Self Sufficient Scheme, the sponsors who fund more than 50 per cent of the project will decide the implementing agency. The sponsors have proposed to select Sri Green Makers to implement the project and we have handed over the work to them,” said the Collector.
The park will have a fountain with four multi-cascade jets that can spray water up to 15 feet, and the centre cascade up to 25 feet. “We will install underwater LED lights to give the fountain an exotic look at night,” said M S Saravanan, director of the Chennai-based Sri Green Makers. “The painting will be done with fibre reinforced plastic in combination with ionised metal,” he said.
“We will plant a total of 14,000 ornamental and foliage plants. Grass will be grown in the open spaces to give a total green cover to the park. It will have 12 watt LED lights erected in 20 places,” the Collector said.
There would be a small children play area with play equipments, he informed. The park with three entry points will have railings.
