Panaji: It doesn't take too long to detect the camaraderie that filmmaker Shekhar Kapur shares with Satish Kaushik. And when the two interacted during a master class at IFFI 2014, it turned out to be an entertaining and enriching experience for the delegates.
Satish, who introduced himself as a an assistant, 'a well known spot boy' and a 'frustrated actor' who asked Shekhar to offer him a role, doesn't understand how the filmmaker, as a beginner was sure of that being able to carve a niche for himself in Hollywood.
"Creativity is adventure. There is no adventure without risks. And if you don't take risks, if you don't get excited by the prospect that you might fail, it won't help you. When you climb a mountain and you make the next step, your heart should throb. Each time you should feel that you are taking a calculated risk. The ability to take risks, fear of failure and fear of death helps a lot," Shekhar explained.
"I remember as a kid each time I saw a ditch, I'd jump over it. And whenever I fell, i would try again and kept trying it till I succeeded in it. So I think taking a leap beyond your comfort level is also a great provocation. I wanted to be provoked and that helped me," Shekhar added.
During the session, Satish appreciated Shekhar for his creativity and ability to say something out of context to actors, minutes before a shot, which only helped them stay focused and give their best.
