Lucknow: The atmosphere in Lucknow's Indian Institute of Management (IIM) is grim.
The professors and students at the IIM-L are in a state of shock over the brutal murder of one of their brightest alumni - S Manjunath.
Manjunath, an IIM graduate working for Indian Oil Corporation was killed on November 19 while he was trying to check the sale of adulterated fuel at a petrol station.
"It is rather unfortunate that a career so promising was cut short in such a brutal manner. He was very unlike the other IIM grads and had no ego hassles. Manjunath will be remembered for not what he said, but what he did and stood for," Dr Debashish Chatterjee, professor IIM-L said.
Fond memory is not the only thing Manjunath has left behind.
His colleagues at the IIM have come out very vocally against the brutal murder and apprehension and scepticism clearely influences their words.
"There will come a stage when we will look at offers from PSUs negatively," said one student.
And while the word of caution has spread far and wide, the faculty is taking is also being very vocal about the issue of receiving death as a prize for being honest on job.
"If you have to fight a deep rooted malice called corruption each student of IIIM will have to act the way Manjunath did," Devi Singh, Director, IIM-L said.
And while Manjunath's funeral pyre is yet to die out for the family, people at IIM Lucknow will definitely remember the honest man's unfortunate fate for sometime to come.
