CHENNAI: The research and development in cardiology are conducted in very negligible quantities and amount only to 0.9 percent of the total research worldwide, said Dr A Muruganathan, president-elect of the Association of Physicians of India (API). Participation of Indian physicians in international medical conferences is very low, he remarked, leading lesser exposure and a failure to keep abreast of latest trends.He spoke at the inauguration of Global Hospitals’ Global Heart Watch - a health awareness initiative. He also urged cardiologists to train general physicians on simple cardiac treatment.Calling CPR awareness programmes the need of the hour, Dr K Ravindranath, Chairman Global Hospitals said, that they would strive to reach people and spread awareness partnering with Indian Medical Association.
