“This festive season, Indian Railways is operating over 6,500 Festival Special Train trips to ensure a smooth and convenient journey for all passengers,” the Ministry of Railways announced on X on Monday.

In the 2023-24 festive season, a total of 4,429 special trains were operated, but this number has been significantly expanded for this year to ensure smoother travel experiences.

The Railway Minister had announced that in response to public demand, 12,500 special trains have been sanctioned, with 5,975 approved for the 2024-25 period. Additionally, general coaches will be added to 108 regular trains, providing more options for passengers during the holiday rush.

Vaishnaw noted that the addition of general coaches and the introduction of special trains aim to ease the strain on Indian Railways during this high-demand period.

Durga Puja begins on October 9, Diwali will be celebrated on October 31, and Chhath Puja will take place on November 7 and 8 this year.
