Islamabad: A Pakistani court has reissued a notice to ISI chief Lt Gen Ahmed Shuja Pasha asking him to appear before it and explain the spy agency's position in the case of a man believed to be detained by the security apparatus, after he failed to turn up for the hearing.
A two-judge bench of the Peshawar High Court on Wednesday reissued the notice to the ISI chief and directed him to appear in court on July 20.
During a previous hearing of the case, a division bench of the High Court had summoned the ISI chief on July 7 to explain the spy agency's position after Fazal Rabi, a man released after detention by security agencies, informed the court that another man named Noorul Amin was in the ISI's custody.
When the bench took up the case yesterday, a section officer of the ISI told the court that Pasha was busy with the investigation of the suicide attack on the Data Darbar shrine in Lahore and would appear in court at the next hearing.
Rabi had earlier informed the court that ISI personnel had released a prayer leader of a mosque who was detained along with him but kept him and Noorul Amin in a "torture cell."
After three months, the agency released him but Noorul Amin was still in illegal confinement, Rabi claimed.
Noorul Amin's mother Hajira Bibi, a resident of Swat district, had filed a petition in the High Court seeking information on the whereabouts and the safe release of her son.
She said in her petition that personnel from the ISI and other law enforcement agencies picked up her son, Rabi and the prayer leader in Peshawar on May 26 last year.
She said the ISI released the other persons but put her son in illegal confinement.
The woman said her son worked as a driver in Dubai and had come home for three months.
She said he had no links with the Taliban or other militant organisations.
