Amid speculations of an impending US strike on Syria, Israel's Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Tuesday held an urgent security consultations with his top officials and said the Jewish nation was "prepared for any eventuality".
Israel was not involved in the Syrian Civil War, but if it discerns any attempt at all to attack it, "We will respond, and we will respond fiercely," Netanyahu said after the meeting, adding that his administration was "prepared for any eventuality".
Israel's Defence Minister Moshe Ya'alon, Chief of Staff, Maj Gen Benny Gantz and an array of top Israel Defence Forces officers attended the meeting at the defence ministry offices in Tel Aviv. Israel believes that close ally United States will alert it before any operation.
Earlier on Tuesday, US media reported that President Barack Obama was considering a limited military strike against Syria, as Washington accused Damascus of using chemical weapons against its own people.
