New Delhi: It's raining awards and honours in Hollywood and beyond.
An independent film about a US bomb disposal unit stationed in Baghdad, The Hurt Locker has been voted the Best Picture of 2009 by the Los Angeles Film Critics Association. The drama starring Guy Pearce and Ralph Fiennes also bagged the Best Director honour for Kathryn Bigelow.
Jeff Bridges won Best Actor for his portrayal of a washed up country singer in Crazy Heart while Yolande Moreau won Best Actress for the French film Seraphine.
Austrian actor Christoph Waltz won the best supporting actor title for his portrayal of the very cunning 'Jew hunter' Col Hans in Quentin Tarantino's Inglorious Basterds and Mo'Nique won Best Supporting actress for her role of mother of 16-year-old sexually abused Claireece in Precious.
The awards ceremony will be held in Los Angeles on Jan 16.
Billboard Honours
Rapper Eminem was named the Artist of the Decade and Best Male Artist by the Billboard magazine.
Meanwhile Grammy nominated Beyonce bagged the Best Female Artist honour and rock band Nickleback is the Group of the Decade as per the music industry's bible.
Johnny Depp Honoured
A lifetime achievement award at 46 can be stupefying but that's exactly what happened at the Bahamas International Film Festival on Sunday. The Pirates of the Caribbean star, Johnny Depp was presented with the Lifetime Achievement honour at the film festival.
Johnny Depp said, "I mean, whenever, somebody says they are going to give me some kind of award, the first thing I say is 'Why?' I'm always a bit stupefied by the notion."
Catherine Zeta Jones Hits Broadway
28 years after her stage debut, Oscar-award winning actress Catherine Zeta Jones made her Broadway debut recently with the musical, A Little Night Music that opened to mixed reviews. Nevertheless, Zeta-Jones was thrilled to be a part of this Sir Trevor Nunn production.
"This is my Broadway debut and I enjoyed it so much I can't believe it's taken me this long," she said.
