Jab Tak Hai Jaan: Will SRK get his mojo back?
Jab Tak Hai Jaan: Will SRK get his mojo back?
Shah Rukh is returning to his most bankable genre with Jab Tak Hai Jaan, and the Yash Chopra magic is there.

New Delhi: Who could be better than Shah Rukh Khan to demonstrate the pressure a superstar has to deal with? All it takes him is one wrong move to became everyone's target. Now, when the charismatic actor is returning with late Yash Chopra's last directorial venture 'Jab Tak Hai Jaan', everyone is seeking the answer to the same question, will Khan get back his Midas touch with this film?

Made at an approximate budget of Rs 50 crore, the film is likely to recover its cost within the first weekend, so that's not the concern. The real question is, will the die-hard Khan fans find the film good enough?

Khan ascended to stardom due to his cynical brand of acting in films such as 'Baazigar', 'Darr' and 'Anjaam', but he became the 'hero' with 'DDLJ' and 'Kuch Kuch Hota Hai'. He displayed a new side of romance that wasn't exposed to the Indian audiences till then. Indian heroes could stand up against 'villainous' father-in-laws but they were not ready to embrace traditions like Khan did. Shah Rukh changed the concept and made the Bollywood protagonist acceptable for the relatively older generation also.

Shah Rukh's charm lies in the fact that he appears very sophisticated, well behaved yet headstrong, which suits the criteria set by Bollywood films in last three or four decades. His kind of romance doesn't look very offensive and appeals his female fans.

He has tried his hands in all sorts of genres but the gamble he played with 'Ra.One' was not well timed, the film had good visual effects but the Indian audience was still not ready to take a technically brilliant film on its face value. Moreover, SRK raised the stakes to such a level where anything lesser than Rs 200 crore was equivalent to a flop.

However, things are different this time as SRK is returning to his most bankable genre, plus the Yash Chopra magic is there and the sympathy wave is also working in favour of the film. Together all these things will get 'Jab Tak Hai Jaan' a great opening but there onwards it would be just one man who can make it cross the Rs 150 crore mark.

The film's straight competition is with 'Ek Tha Tiger' in terms of revenue, so Rs 200 crore is the ultimate mark to achieve, and that is not likely to happen in absence of a really good storyline and scintillating performances.

So, everything comes down to Shah Rukh Khan whose performance will be the make or break factor for the film, thus King Khan doesn't seem to have any other option than coming up with a spectacular show, he needs to get his mojo back.

What's your reaction?
