Jammu: Pakistani troops fired at 10 Border Security Force (BSF) posts on early Monday morning in Arania sector of Jammu. Two BSF soldiers have been injured.
The gunbattle started around 2 AM.
"Pakistani Rangers resorted to unprovoked firing from small arms and automatic weapons on 7 BOPs along IB in Arnia sub-sector in Jammu district from around 2030 hours late last night," a BSF officer said on Monday.
BSF troops guarding the borderline along IB took positions and retaliated effectively to the Pakistani firing which resulted in intermittent exchanges of fire, he said. Two BSF jawans suffered minor injuries in the firing exchanges and have been shifted for treatment, the officer said, adding that exchanges continued till 6 AM on Monday morning.
The fresh ceasefire violation comes ahead of the visit of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to Ladakh region's Leh and Kargil districts on Tuesday, where he is going to inaugurate power projects and address troops in Leh.
Earlier on Sunday, too, the Pakistani troops targeted Indian posts with small arms and automatic weapons to which the Indian side retaliated.
There has been eight ceasefire violations by Pakistan in July. In June, it violated the ceasefire five times along the LoC and IB in Jammu region. There were 19 incidents of ceasefire violation along the LoC in April-May.
