Kolkata: A fierce gunbattle is on between the security forces and the Maoists at Banksol area of Junglemahal in West Bengal. The exchange of fire started when the district police officials were combing for area domination and the Maoists opened fire at the security personnel.
Sources say the CRPF has sent units to the spot to assist the police officials. There are no reports of any dead or injured till now.
In a separate incident one live landmine and two detonators were recovered at Pirakata area of Junglemahal on Tuesday morning. The wires were tied to two trees.
Sources claimed that the landmine is very sophisticated, and is in the process of being defused.
Meanwhile, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee met the government-appointed interlocutors for peace talks with Maoists. Sujato Bhadra and Chhotan Das have been appointed by the West Bengal government to negotiate with the Maoists.
On Saturday, Mamata had set a seven-day deadline for the rebels in the Jangalmahal region to lay down arms and sit for negotiations after calling them 'supari killers'.
