NEW DELHI: The Special 2G court on Saturday deferred the hearing on the bail application of DMK MP Kanimozhi Karunanidhi and Kalaignar TV, Managing Director (MD) Sharad Kumar till October 17.Presiding Judge O P Saini put off the hearing following a plea by defence, which wanted to start the arguments only after charges were framed against accused. Senior advocates Sushil Kumar and Altaf Ahmed appearing for Kanimozhi and Kumar respectively informed the court that they were bound by the Supreme Court directive issued on July 20 on their earlier bail pleas. The apex court without going into the merits of the application had directed that the accused could seek relief only after the trial court had framed charges against them in the case.Meanwhile, Kanimozhi and Kumar on Saturday opposed the CBI’s plea to slap them with an additional charge of allegedly committing criminal breach of trust on the grounds that they were not the alleged beneficiaries of the 2G spectrum licences. The accused sought the dismissal of CBI’s fresh charge in replies filed in the Special Court. Appearing for the duo, V G Pragasam and S J Aristotle, claimed that their clients had nothing to do with the allocation of spectrum nor did they benefit from the allocation of spectrum licences. Moreover it was pointed out that even as per the CBI’s chargesheet,Kanimozhi and Kumar were not part of the conspiracy relating to allocation of spectrum.
