Chennai: Eight people have been killed and over 50 have been injured when 9 coaches of an express train bound for Ernakulam in Kerala from Bengaluru derailed near Hosur. The incident took place near Anekal near Mulagondapalli and Chandrapuram in the early hours on Friday.
While ambulances from Karnataka and Tamil Nadu have been rushed to the spot, officials are coordinating rescue operations. Railway officials said nine coaches of the Bangalore-Ernakulam Intercity express derailed between Anekal-Hosur, about 45 kms away from Bangalore.
The mishap occurred around 7.40 AM. Railway authorities have rushed rescue teams to the spot and mounted a massive operation. Several passengers have been trapped in the coaches mangled due to the impact of derailment and being pulled out.
The injured are being rushed to nearby hospitals.
