Mumbai: Lashkar-e-Toiba terrorist and Mumbai terror attacks convict Ajmal Kasab, who was executed at Pune's Yarwada Jail on Wednesday morning at 7:30 am, had been informed of his hanging on November 12 that he would be hanged on November 21. After Kasab was informed about his execution he said that his mother Nooreelai, who lives in Pakistan, should be informed about it.
President Pranab Mukherjee signed the order on November 5, Home Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde on November 7 while the Maharashtra government on November 8. On November 14, Home Secretary RK Singh wrote to Foreign Secretary that a decision on Kasab had been taken and that his family be informed. On November 19, Kasab was moved to Pune's Yerwada Jail for execution from Mumbai's Arthur Road Jail.
On November 20, India informed Pakistan High Commission about the decision to hang Kasab and asked that his family be informed. While India sent a courier to Kasab's family in Karachi and also informed the Pakistani government, yet there has been no official acknowledgement of the same.
Maharashtra Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan on Wednesday said that the Indian government tried to reach to the family members of Mumbai terror attack accused Ajmal Kasab, who was hanged this morning in Pune's Yerwada jail. He also said that Kasab has been buried in the Yerwada jail premises itself.
"Kasab has been hanged to death today morning at Pune's jail. He was taken to Pune from Mumbai two days back. Kasab has been burried in Yerwada jail premises itself," he said.
On the decision of date of hanging, he said, "The date of hanging was decided by the judge. According to the rule book we tried to reach to the family members of Kasab in Pakistan," he added.
