New Delhi: Kapil Dev Tripathi, a 1980 batch IAS officer of Assam-Manipur cadre, has taken over as secretary in the Central Vigilance Commission.

Tripathi's name was recently cleared by the Appointments Committee of Cabinet (ACC) and he took over the new charge on May 4, a CVC official said.

The post was lying vacant for over a month following superannuation of KS Ramasubban, a 1976 batch West Bengal cadre IAS officer, on March 31.

Incidentally, Tripathi is one batch junior to Additional Secretary Anil Kumar Sinha in the Commission. Sinha is an IPS officer of Bihar cadre.

The CVC is an independent body, which advises the Government on vigilance-related matters and check corruption in various departments, among others. It is also probing several scams, including cases relating to Commonwealth Games.
