THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: ‘Netra - eyes to reveal’, the name tells it all. The eight-page tabloid news journal published by the Department of Journalism, Mass Communication and Video Production in Mar Ivanios College, brings everything worth reading. Campus buzz, film, literature; the multilingual publication is the first such venture of an effervescent team of second year students of Bachelor of Mass Communication and Video Production (BVMC) in the college. The journal was released at the Silver Jubilee Hall of the college by Samuel Mar Iranios, Auxillary Bishop of Thiruvananthapuram on Tuesday. “So far, our department has brought out several video productions. This time, we decided to try our hands in print medium also. It has taken a month-long effort to bring out this issue. We had been so keen to include the works of almost all in our class. We expect to bring it out as a bimonthly from now,” says Jazeel J, second year student of BVMC. The journal has devoted equal number of pages for both Malayalam and English. It would be wrong to call this journal a newspaper as it has opened up a stage to bring out the creative talents of the students too. There has been a strong support from the faculty too. Fr Joseph Mundakkal, Jolly Jacob, Winni Panicker and Nayana R of the department have fully supported the venture from the very beginning. “The effort of the students was excellent. We teachers gave them only guidance. It was the students who shelled out the money for the publication. They also garnered advertisements to be published. They have brought out 2,000 copies which will be circulated inside the Ivanios Vidya Nagar,” said Jolly John, course coordinator of Journalism. Not only the editorial work, the students have also tried their hand at bringing out an attractive design to the paper. Hari Sadasivan and Sreeram R hold the credit for the attractive design.
