In a unique case, for the first time in the history of Kerala bureaucracy, an IAS couple is going to be the Chief Secretary of Kerala without any gap in tenure. This is because as soon as incumbent Kerala Chief Secretary Dr V Venu will retire on August 31, his wife Sarada Muraleedharan will be appointed to this post. This consecutive posting of this power couple has become the talk of the town all in bureaucratic circles.
Both Dr Venu and Sarada Muraleedharan are 1990 batch IAS officers. Currently, Sarada Muraleedharan is handling the responsibility of Additional Chief Secretary in the Local Self Department. She led the state government’s ambitious poverty alleviation program Kudumbashree Mission for six years from 2006 to 2012. She has also taken charge of several schemes related to women empowerment.
Sarada Muraleedharan was allocated several responsibilities in the central government throughout her illustrious tenure. She was on deputation to the Center in 2013. During this time, she worked as Chief Operating Officer in the National Rural Livelihood Mission under the Ministry of Rural Development. Following this, she worked as Joint Secretary in the Ministry of Panchayati Raj for the next two years.
Dr V Venu is a resident of Kozhikode. He completed school from Kendriya Vidyalaya in the city. Following this, he went on to get an MBBS degree from Malabar Christian College. Dr V Venu was first posted as the District Collector of Thrissur district.
