New Delhi: Mocking at the inquiry ordered by the West Bengal government on the March 14 killings by police in Nandigram, Trinamool Leader Partha Chatterjee said "murderers are probing murders".
Chatterjee, a senior Trinamool Congress leader, demanded deposition of people held at East Midnapore district. He said witnesses should be brought to Nandigram and must be provided with more security.
However, the Divisional Commissioner Balbir Ram said that shifting of the venue of deposition was not possible. He ensured that ample security would be provided to witnesses.
The inquiry was ordered on March 19 to determine whether outsiders were involved in the firing on the villagers and under what circumstances the police opened fire.
Chatterjee visited Nandigram in East Midnapore district after the clash between the CPI(M) and Bhumi Ucched Pratirodh Committee supporters who exchanged fire and hurled bombs at Paharganj, an area between Nandigram Block-I and Khejuri on Friday.
The Trinamool leader warned Chief Minister Buddhadev Bhattacharjee not to 'play with blood' and demanded that no more land be acquired in the district.
Meanwhile, the Bhumi Ucched Pratirodh Committee handed over to the police a local CPI(M) leader Niranjan Mandal who was allegedly involved in the violence.
