BANGALORE: The State Government has decided to extend the term of both Karnataka Knowledge Commission (KKC) and its chairman Dr K Kasturirangan up to June 2013. Informing this to media persons, Chief Minister D V Sadananda Gowda said that the decision to extend the commission’s term was taken after considering its necessity in improving the quality of higher education in the state. The term of the commission, set up three years ago, will end on September 30.Gowda also lauded the work of the commission and assured to implement all its recommendations. “The commission has given some important recommendation pertaining to higher education. The State Government is keen to implement them,” he added.Referring the suggestion of Jnanpith award winner Chandrashekhar Kambar to nationalise primary and secondary education, the CM said that the government would consider it taking note of the legal issues surrounding the issue. “I will soon discuss the issue with the writers and academicians,” the chief minister added. He also said that his government was committed to develop Kannada software as demanded by him.
