Mumbai: Shah Rukh Khan's Kolkata Knight Riders may be on a winning streak in the India Premier League but the Kolkata Municipal Corporation (KMC) is fuming at the superstar.

The Corporation says Shah Rukh’s company, Red Chilli Entertainment, owes it Rs 22 lakh for ads and banners he had put up inside the Eden Gardens stadium on Sunday.

The usually easygoing municipal body has suddenly woken up to the fact that Red Chillies Entertainment has not paid it for publicity matter put up during the match between Kolkata Knight Riders and Deccan Chargers.

According to KMC, the company has to pay a fee at the rate of Rs 15 per sq ft of signage, which adds up to a huge amount of Rs 22 lakh. The payment was due on April 19.

And although the West Bengal Finance Minister was kind enough to exempt Shah Rukh from paying entertainment tax on ticket sales, the municipal corporation is in no mood to relent.

“According to the provision of the KMC act, we can fine up to three times of the present amount if they don’t pay, in which case we will take adequate legal measures,” said member, Mayor in Council, KMC, Faiyaz Ahmed Khan.

Meanwhile, the Kolkata office of the Knight Riders has refused to comment, perhaps, keeping in mind that the next match featuring the Knight Riders at Eden Gardens is scheduled to take place on April 29.
