Kshemapadham inauguration on July 24

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Kshemapadham will inaugurate ‘Kshemapadham’, the social service programme initiated by Lions Club International at the Sree Mulam Club community hall on Sunday evening. Various projects worth Rs 7 crore will be implemented by the Lions Club, District Governor Dr.C Ramakrishnan  said on Saturday.Ramakrishan announced various social service programmes that would be organised  as part of the the Golden Jubilee Anniversary of Lions Club’s formation in Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam and Alappuzha Districts. Under this  scheme , labourers employed to collect  household solid waste will be provided with overcoats, protective gloves and sari as uniform and they will be offered medical check ups every three months. Their medical expenses will be covered by the club. Thousand families below poverty line would be provided bio-gas plants. An agreement has been signed with the firm Biotech that will enable implementation of morning and mid-day meals to Government school students,he said.  He also announced a new project under which,1000 students of BPL category  will be provided scholarships.  It also envisages to provide training  in literary activities to school students which can equip them to win accolades at highest levels. The Club also proposes to promote organic farming and introduce nature clubs in 300 schools. Apart from these announcements the Club is also intending to start a forum of blood donors with the assistance of residence associations in the city. The plan ‘Vision In Children’  will cater to students who are aged between five and fourteen. The eyesight of students will be examined and those with impaired vision will be given spectacles. Resting rooms  will be constructed at railway stations and bus stations. The other key project for this academic year includes ‘Operation Black Board’ for repairing black boards.
