At least five people were injured when a leopard wandered into a village in north Delhi’s Wazirabad on Monday morning, causing panic among the locals. Officials said the leopard was rescued afterwards.
According to officials, the leopard leaped from a house terrace in Jagatpur village early in the morning, then entered the adjacent building, where it was trapped in a room. Videos circulating on social media show locals chasing the leopard and others fleeing in fear.

The Delhi Fire Service received information about the incident around 6:20 am and dispatched two fire tenders.
“With the help of the locals, the officials locked the leopard in a room. The injured were sent to a hospital,” Delhi Fire Service (DFS) chief Atul Garg told news agency PTI.
A resident reported that the leopard was first seen around 4:30 am, and a PCR call was made at 5:15 am, adding that it tried to attack over a dozen people, injuring some of them.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (north) MK Meena stated that a call concerning the leopard entering a house came from Jagatpur village. Subsequently, local police arrived at the scene and informed forest department officials.
Police confirmed that five people were injured in the leopard attack, with Mahender, Akash, and Rampal among the identified victims.
DCP Meena mentioned that seven forest department personnel, a team from the Delhi Fire Department, and local police were present at the location.
A local resident mentioned that the village is surrounded by jungle but lacks fencing or any other security measures.
In a similar incident last December, a leopard was spotted at Sainik Farms in South Delhi, with videos capturing the big cat wandering in the residential area. It was last sighted on December 6, and the forest department suspected it had returned to the Asola Bhatti Wildlife Sanctuary. A week later, a leopard was fatally struck by a car on National Highway 44 near Khatushyam temple in north Delhi’s Alipur.
