LK Advani Admitted To Delhi's Apollo; Hospital Says 'Condition Stable & Under Observation'

Veteran leader and former deputy Prime Minister LK Advani was admitted to Indraprastha Apollo Hospital in New Delhi on Tuesday.

The hospital stated that Advani was admitted to the neurology department and is currently “stable and under observation.”

Advani is currently under the care of Dr. Vinit Suri, Senior Consultant in the Neurology Department, for a routine follow-up. “He is fine and likely to be discharged soon,” Dr. Suri said.

Earlier in July, Advani was admitted to the same hospital and discharged after a few days of observation, also under the care of Dr. Suri.

Before this, Advani had a brief stay at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), where he was discharged after a night of observation.

Capping a parliamentary career spanning nearly three decades, the Bharatiya Janata Party stalwart was first the Home Minister and, later, the Deputy Prime Minister in the cabinet of Atal Bihari Vajpayee (1999-2004). He was deputy PM from 2002 to 2004 and home minister from 1999 to 2004.

In March, Advani was honoured with the Bharat Ratna, India’s highest civilian award, by President Droupadi Murmu at a ceremony at his residence.

The ceremony was attended by Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, Home Minister Amit Shah and the family members of the veteran politician.

“One of the most respected statesmen of our times, his contribution to the development of India is monumental. His is a life that started from working at the grassroots to serving the nation as our Deputy Prime Minister… His Parliamentary interventions have always been exemplary, full of rich insights,” PM Modi had wrote about Advani in an ‘X’ post when the senior BJP leader was conferred the prestigious award.

Lal Krishna Advani, popularly known as LK Advani, was born on November 8, 1927, in Karachi (now in Pakistan). He joined the RSS as a Swayamsevak in 1942 and served as BJP National President in three separate terms: from 1986 to 1990, 1993 to 1998, and 2004 to 2005, holding the longest tenure of any President since the party’s founding in 1980.
