Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla lauded the efforts of corporations and individuals championing social responsibility at the 7th edition of The CSR Journal Excellence Awards 2024. Themed “India First” with a focus on women empowerment, the ceremony took place at the Jio World Convention Centre in Mumbai.

Addressing over 600 attendees, including dignitaries, social activists, and prominent figures from various fields, Birla expressed, “I extend my heartfelt gratitude to each and every one working hard to bring a smile to the faces of the underprivileged and improve their lives. The work companies are doing for society is truly noble. If your efforts can bring a smile to even one person’s face, there is no greater achievement.”

He further highlighted the government’s commitment to socio-economic progress, stating, “The Central and state governments have introduced schemes for economic betterment, and today we are witnessing a positive transformation in India. Our nation is progressing, becoming stronger and earning international respect.”

Amit Upadhyay, Founder & Editor-in-Chief of The CSR Journal, emphasized the significance of the chosen theme: “Our focus on ‘India First’ and women empowerment is close to my heart. Women don’t need empowerment; they are empowered. Historically, social responsibility and communal harmony have been ingrained in Indian culture, flowing through our veins.”

The event was graced by esteemed guests including P.T. Usha, Member of Parliament (Rajya Sabha) and President of the Indian Olympic Association. Adding a touch of stardom, Bollywood actor Ayushmann Khurrana and noted actors Vikrant Massey, Dia Mirza, and Manushi Chhillar, known for their philanthropic work, were also present.

Indian football icon Sunil Chhetri further graced the occasion. Paralympic athletes Navdeep Singh and Avani Lekhara received special honours for their contributions to the nation.

Emcee Shaina Khan hosted the prestigious event, while singer Annkur Pathak captivated the audience with a soulful performance. A vibrant dance performance by V Company added to the evening’s entertainment.

Since India mandated Corporate Social Responsibility in 2014, the field has witnessed remarkable growth and potential for human development. The CSR Journal Excellence Awards are organized annually to acknowledge and celebrate the impactful contributions of Indian corporations in this domain.
