Mumbai: National carrier Air-India on Tuesday denied reports about a breach of security on board Prime Minister Manmohan Singh's flight during his visit to Germany and Uzbekistan in April, but admitted there had been a 'pilferage' of liquor on the aircraft.
Air-India Chairman and Managing Director V Thulasidas maintained that there had only been an act of pilferage of liquor bottles on the flight during the Prime Minister's visit to the two countries during April 21-26.
"We assure you that there was no security lapse at all. There was an incident of pilferage of six liquor bottles," he said.
Thulasidas said a formal inquiry had been conducted into the incident and its report had been submitted to him on Tuesday.
"We will examine the report from all perspectives and take appropriate action within two to three days," he said, adding that Air-India had no intention of shielding any one.
Thulasidas said the national carrier has decided not to allow the entire crew of the concerned flight to be on board any VVIP flight till the inquiry is concluded.
Around 30 to 35 crew members were onboard the Prime Minister's flight, he said.
A media report had said the Special Protection Group had reported a breach of security after finding seals broken on a cabinet in the aircraft used to stock liquor.
