A 24-year-old woman gave birth to a girl baby on a running train here on Wednesday morning when being rushed to Chennai for to be admitted to a hospital.
According to sources, the pregnant lady, identified as Sulochana of Kailasapuram at Arakkonam, was being brought to the city by her father Perumal by the Cheran Express. Though she did not show any sign of labour pain while boarding the train, Sulochana began having severe spasms after the train crossed Tiruvallur Railway Station.
She was subsequently delivered of a girl baby in coach number S 12 on the moving train between Basin Bridge and Central Station. Later, she was rushed to the Institute of Child Health and Hospital for Children, Egmore in an ambulance after she reached central around 7.15 am, police said.
