Mumbai: Filmmaker Nagesh Kukunoor described his new venture Dor as the most challenging and dramatic film to date.

Kukunoor, who made his debut in the film world with critically acclaimed Hyderabad Blues, won laurels for Iqbal last year.

The filmmaker said that Dor, which is slated for release on September 22, was very different from Iqbal.

While Iqbal was a story of an underdog trying to find a place in Indian cricket squad, the new film canvases the journey of two women from different worlds and how they come together through a tryst of destiny.

"The film makes you ask how far you will go to save the one you love. It's a story about love, loss, friendship, hope and ultimately redemption," he said.

He added: "Dor, however, at its core, as in all of my films has the human element and the simplicity of the basic emotions that bind us all.''

The film is produced by Sahara One Motion Pictures in collaboration with Percept Picture Company and Sic Productions.

The film stars Ayesha Takia, Gul Panang, Shreyas Talpade, Girish Karnad and Pratiksha Lonkar. The music of the film is by Salim-Suleiman.
