Mallya Targets Media, Says 'Check Facts Before Calling Me Defaulter'

Business tycoon Vijay Mallya, who is facing a case of loan default of over Rs 9400 crore, has targeted the Indian media for his troubles, accusing it of not verifying facts.

Citing that he had made a settlement offer, Mallya questioned why he should be called a defaulter.

"Agree Kingfisher Air owes money to Banks.I am neither a borrower or a judgement debtor. Why am I a defaulter inspite of a settlement offer?" he said.

He further advised the media to check and verify facts before calling him a defaulter.

"In all humility and not in defiance as they report, I would like Indian media to check and verify facts before calling me a defaulter," he tweeted.

In his resignation letter to Rajya Sabha Chairman Hamid Ansari, he said he does not want his "name and reputation to be further dragged in the mud".

"And since recent events suggest that I will not get a fair trial or justice, I am hereby resigning as a member of the Rajya Sabha with immediate effect," Mallya said in the letter.

Sources, however, said his letter to Ansari was a scanned copy - which is not proper procedure - and that he may still be expelled from Parliament.

This is Mallya's second term in Rajya Sabha and it would have otherwise come to an end on July 1.

The government had over a week ago revoked his diplomatic passport and approached UK for his deportation.
