Patna: Eleven policemen including a Station House Officer (SHO) and an Inspector has been suspended after a man died after he was allegedly beaten up by them in custody at Maner police station, police sources said on Saturday.
The man, identified as Salman Khan, died at the PMCH on Friday evening nearly a week after he was beaten by the policemen in custody at Maner police station, Patna range's Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) Sunil Kumar said.
The body has been sent for post-mortem and an investigation was underway in the matter, he said.
The Maner police station's Station House Officer (SHO) Rasbihari Paswan and Inspector Dhirendra Kumar has been suspended by the Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Amrit Raj and a murder case lodged against them on the statement of the kins of the victim, Kumar said.
The Inspector was absconding, he said.
Besides, four Sub-Inspectors, two Assistant Sub-Inspectors and three Munshis posted at Maner police station have also been put under suspension, the DIG said.
Khan, a trader and native of Banahi village under Bihiya police station area of Bhojpur district, was taken into custody on Monday last in connection with questioning in a case and was kept in illegal detention for over 24 hours by the cops who produced him before court only on Friday when his health condition deteriorated, he said.
