A person was killed when boulder from a mountain fell on his car in the Chamoli district here, even as rains in the state caused landslides, affecting traffic movement on several roads including national highways.
According to the Uttarakhand State Emergency Operation Centre, Manoj Kumar Panwar was killed when the boulder fell on his car while he was going from Devkhal to Baamnath.
The incident took place a few kilometres before Baamnath. Meanwhile, light to heavy rains took place at various places in the state.
Ukhimath recorded 78.8 mm rains, Haldwani received 125.5 mm rains, Kapkot 60.50 mm, Ramnagar 48.4 mm and 18 mm rain was recorded in Champawat and Banbasa, the Centre said.
Light rains were recorded in several other places, it said.
The rains caused landslides at several places which affected traffic movement on Rishikesh-Badrinath National Highway, Rishikesh-Gangotri National Highway and Rishikesh-Yamunotri National Highway, according to the Centre.
The Rishikesh-Badrinath highway was affected due to accumulation of landslide debris in Patalganj and Pagalnala area, while movement on Rishikesh-Gangotri National highway
was affected in Netala, Malla, Laaldang and Gangnani areas. The Rishikesh-Yamunotri highway was affected in Silaiband area.
In all these areas, the BRO and Public Works Department are removing the debris, it added.
