Mangalore attack: Ashok talks tough

Home Minister R Ashok said he directed the District Police to immediatly arrest those  who attacked the revellers at a resort in Mangalore on Saturday.

“Who gave these (moral) people authority to attack a private property and assault people? After arresting the culprits, the government will probe whether they (attackers) belong to a Hindu protagonist organisation or belonged to some other group,” Ashoka told reporters in Bangalore. He regretted that the media which was called into the scene of the offence, did not alert the police about the incident.

Condemning the assault on girls, he warned that those who indulge in such attacks would be dealt with sternly.State Women Commission Chairperson Manjula also decried the attack and wanted the government to punish the culprits.

Karnataka Youth Congress strongly condemned the ‘brutal, inhuman, insensitive attack on innocent youth and particularly the women in the name of moral  policing’.

“No civilised person will or should tolerate assault on women. We demand immediate action on the police first for their inaction and the arrest of the attackers without any delay,” said Karnataka unit Youth Congress President Rizwan Arshad.
