New Delhi: Triple jumper Mayookha Johny has been cleared to take part in the London Olympics after she came up with a fine effort in a competition at her training base in Germany, Athletics Federation of India said on Monday.

AFI Secretary General CK Valson told PTI that Mayookha's coach has sent a report that she cleared 14.10m in a meet in Germany three days back and it will be treated as proof of her fitness for the London Games. "Mayookha's coach Shyamkumar sent us a report that she did a 14.10m in a meet in Germany three days back and so her fitness is not an issue. She is also taking part in another competition on July 22 in Germany," Valson said.

The 14.10m jump is just a shade below her personal best of 14.11m which she did in Kobe last year at the Asian Championships. Mayookha, marathoner Ram Singh Yadav and triple jumper Renjith Maheshwary were asked by the AFI to prove their fitness on the ground that they have not taken part in a competition for some time after qualifying for the London Games.

Maheshwary was given the green signal for the Olympics after he leapt to 16.45m in nine strides in a fitness test jump at his training base at Forli in Italy on July 9.

Yadav remains the only athlete out of the trio to prove his fitness and he will have his assessment run in Coimbatore on July 22. "Yadav will run at the synthetic track in Coimbatore on July 22. It will be a 10k run and there will be no such time limit that he should complete the race within that. It's just to assess my ward's fitness," coach K S Mathew said from the training base at Ooty.

"Yadav is happy now as there will be not much disruption in training schedule. It's just two and half hours drive from Ooty," he said.
