Medical varsity justifies revision

CHENNAI: TN Dr MGR Medical University and its Controller of Medical Examinations have justified the revision in the system of promotion of MBBS students from first year to second year.As per the revised system, a student has to score 50 per cent marks in each of the subjects separately, instead of aggregate.  The justification was made by Dr Sudha Seshayyan, Registrar of the University in her common counter-affidavit filed in response to a batch of writ petitions from S Vairavel of Harur in Dharmapuri and over 100 others, challenging the revised system. University counsel Narmadha Sampath submitted that the revised system was introduced as there was a slump in marks obtained by students in essential subjects like anatomy and physiology.
