Meet Samrat Ghosh, The Bengal Mason Who Became Mr Kerala In Bodybuilding
Despite his growing recognition in the bodybuilding world, Samrat has continued his work as a mason on construction sites in Arimpur.

Kerala’s Arimpur, a village that was once known as Aripura, the land of rice cultivation, has a rich history tied to its agricultural roots. Today, it carries forward its legacy under a new name but remains a place where traditional and modern livelihoods intersect. One such story of this intersection is that of Samrat Ghosh, a young man who journeyed from Murshidabad in West Bengal to Arimpur about five years ago. Drawn by the promise of better opportunities, Samrat arrived in this Kerala village to work in construction, a field that was far removed from the farming traditions of Aripura.

Alongside his work, Samrat was dedicated to maintaining his physical fitness. He joined a local gym and underwent structured training under the guidance of trainer Akhil, using his work breaks to exercise. Competing in bodybuilding contests organized by the Kappa Association, Samrat, an outsider, won the titles of Mr. Thrissur and Mr. Kerala in the 65 kg sub-junior category. He also secured second place in the sub-junior bodybuilding competition held in South India and has begun preparing for the Mr. India competition.

Despite his growing recognition in the bodybuilding world, Samrat has continued his work as a mason on construction sites in Arimpur. He reflects on the stark difference between his earnings here and what he used to make back in his hometown. In Murshidabad, he earned a mere Rs 300 per day, but in Kerala, his daily wage has risen to Rs 1,000. This significant increase in income has allowed him to lead a more comfortable life and pursue his passion for bodybuilding without financial strain.

He has grown attached to the land of Kerala and wishes to stay in Arimpur. Pleased with his earnings, physical fitness and recognition, Samrat Ghosh is content and has no interest in returning to his native place. He feels that Kerala has welcomed him and he intends to stay.
